Having Fun With Fonts, Pt.1
What the Heck Is a Word Aptos?

If you have updated your installation of Microsoft 365, AKA Office, lately, and you have never set a your own default font, your default font is now the Brand Spanking New Font, Aptos.  Aptos has replaced the former default font, Calibri.

Personally, I never liked the appearance of Calibri; and Aptos is no improvement.  Fortunately, we do not have to accept Microsoft's lack of good taste.  We can easily change our default font for our Office apps.  Here Word will be our example.

Here is the problem.  Unless you have previously set a personal default font, when you open a new Word document this is what you will see: Aptos in the font selection box.

In any Office, except Outlook, the default font is changed in the same steps.  For our purpose here, we will use Word as the example.

Step 1:

a.  Locate the Font Selection Box on the Word Ribbon.

b.  Open the complete Font Selection Dialog Box by clicking the very small square in the lower right of the control box.

Step 2:  The Complete Font Selection Dialog Box opens.

a.  Scroll down the Font Face List to select your personal default font.  Style and Size of the font can be selected also.  A preview of your new default font will show.

b.  Click the Set As Default Button

c.  The most important consideration is if you want the font change to effect just the document you are working with, or change ALL DOCUMENTS.

d.  Something to consider here is if you have never set a default font, and you subsequently change the default font all documents, then the line and paragraph spacing on your existing documents may also change.

And Behold Your Handiwork!

Going back to where we began here, click the Font Selection Dialog box in Word. And see that now you have set your own Personal Default Font in Word.

The steps to change the default font are the same for Excel, but quite different for Outlook.  In Outlook, you have several places that need attention to get your screen just the way you like it.
